On Monday of Holy Week, Jesus cleansed the temple.

– Matthew 21:12-16
12 ¶ And Jesus went into the temple of God, and cast out all them that sold and bought in the temple, and overthrew the tables of the moneychangers, and the seats of them that sold doves,
13 And said unto them, It is written, My house shall be called the house of prayer; but ye have made it a den of thieves.
14 And the blind and the lame came to him in the temple; and he healed them.
15 And when the chief priests and scribes saw the wonderful things that he did, and the children crying in the temple, and saying, Hosanna to the Son of David; they were sore displeased,
16 And said unto him, Hearest thou what these say? And Jesus saith unto them, Yea; have ye never read, Out of the mouth of babes and sucklings thou hast perfected praise?

Activities for Temple Monday
On Temple Monday, our family reads the above scripture verses and goes on an evening walk around our local temple. Once again, this is a good opportunity to bring up the concept mentioned yesterday with the lillies. Using the above verses in Matthew to teach our children about being careful not to become like the money changers at the temple but rather to focus on the kingdom of God. As well as talking to them about the House of the Lord being a holy place where the spirit resides. The spirit cannot reside there if it is filled with money changers like was the case on this day of Holy Week during Jesus’ life. While walking around the temple grounds it is also a great time to talk to our children about prayer (as mentioned in the verses above) and possibly even say your own prayer or write in a journal while feeling the spirit that resides there.
Resurrection Egg of the day:
Today’s resurrection egg includes a penny (representing the money changers) and a strip of paper that reads “Matthew 21:12-16.
