Holy Week – Spirit World Saturday

April 7, 2025 by Sarah Christensen Leave a Comment

On Saturday of Holy Week, Jesus’ body was in the tomb.

On this day of Holy Week, while His body lay in the tomb, Jesus preached in the Spirit World.

Today is a good day for doing Family History work, having a family testimony meeting and going on a lantern walk. Read Doctrine & Covenants 138:11-24

Today is also often the day my family will do our more seclular Easter celebrations, such as Easter baskets and egg hunts (although some years we have saved that for the following Monday, once “real” Easter is over).

Some ideas we have implemented for making secular Easter more spiritual:

  • The pastel colors often used in Easter decorations and supplies represent spring time and new life. Pastel colors are also made by adding “pure white” or LIGHT to other colors. Just as we are all different (like the colors) we all have the light of Christ added to us as we work to become more like him.
  • Baby animals represent new life through Jesus Christ, and remind us that He is the creator.
  • Springtime is when life is renewed after the long, cold winter of everything “seeming” dead. Much like Jesus is resurrected after His body lay in the tomb.
  • And one everyone has surely heard, empty easter eggs are like the empty tomb.

Resurrection Egg for today:

today’s egg is filled with:

  • a small stone
  • a piece of white fabric
  • a small cinnamon stick
  • a strip of paper reading “Matthew 27:57-60”
